  2. Have you looked at MidAmump's clinic in Missouri? I believe it's only a long weekend and I've heard nothing but raves about it from umpires who have been there. I believe it's part of the Wendelstedt sphere. I live an hour from there and have yet to make it but it's definitely on my priority list for the next year. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  3. Because it's not a newbie section, it's an ask the umpire section. Plenty of parents, grandparents, and none baseball people in general don't have the slightest clue about baseball. That's OK, I respect they ask rather than assume they know something they don't and yell at some umpire. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  4. Last year it was the f6/r2 calls, this year seems to be starting out with BI or CI calls, too many inexperienced catchers setting way to far in or batters paying more attention to r2s than freezing or getting out of the way. I sell every call the same no matter what. I don't care if I think a coach will come to me about a call, that's his job and I expect he'll do his job. It's all in how we both represent ourselves during the conversation that counts. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  5. I feel ya, I wore my parka on top of 5 other layers on the bases the other night. Screw looking professional at 37 degrees for 11 year old baseball. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  6. I have the ix3, decent mask but the pads are crap. My first concussion was with those pads. Replaced with the team wendy pads but I'm not a fan of them either because of our cold weather. I'd go for the leather pads. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  7. Wow, this guy is super responsive! I've been emailing him over some gear and I can say he's been the absolute best about being willing to do extra work to help me find see if gear will work for me before I blow any more cash. I'm glad I took the time to scroll through threads while I'm in town, thanks for posting this. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  8. We can't tell you what should have been a result of a play we didn't see, however, the proper mechanics on a missed base is no mechanic. Say nothing, do nothing. Start setting up for the next batter, if an appeal arises, then that is the only time to signal/say safe or out. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  9. Maybe someone will post a link, I'd be interested as its the one I'm considering since they discontinued my beloved Wilson. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  10. Congrats BTW! I talk to a local guy you went with. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  12. Is anyone going to the camp in Kansas City next month? Here the info if someone in the area doesn't have it. I'm going, injured, but I'm going. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  13. You might consult a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon also, a fellow umpire was cleared to work after a heart surgery but his surgeon didn't understand the realities of umpiring, especially since he did college ball too. He took a foul ball right to the chest, he was out the rest of the season because he rebroke something. My husband regularly speaks to several different sports medicine guys (he's had a bunch of of surgeries the last few years) who understand his sport and the realities of that sport on different parts of his body, Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  14. My dad had open heart surgery last year and umpired. He wasn't allowed by his doctors to plate for quite some time, but he returned to the field after a few months, I think his surgery was also in January. He started out slowly, he started doing one game as a fill in for a no show then worked up to more games as he felt he could hand it. I'll pass along your email to him and he can more fully answer you questions. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  15. This happens all the time. I couldn't tell you how many times coaches have demanded I get removed from a game, difference, my UIC would remove all the officials from all the fields if a tournament director tried to pull that stuff on me. Please, share this on you social media platforms. Tag Adidas, make sure they know that you have seen it and will stand up for her. This will continue to happen until it cost them money and makes them look bad to the general public. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  16. Nope, they don't. The umpiring buying community is a small population with women being a tiny percentage of that, so I understand why the don't. Engineering, development, testing, and minimum manufacturing requirements don't make it very cost effective for companies. I personally would rather see a more modular vest that is basically ala carte. You start with a base narrow center plate then add additional pieces to suit the frame of the wearer. Force is on the right path, but their product isn't engineered for women's bodies. Our bumps don't allow the vest to dissipate energy the way it was engineered to work. 17. I'd be perfectly willing to speak to a rep about the unique common issues I've been speaking to other women umpires about. I, personally, have tried 6 different vests and I've been injured wearing every one of them, including the force. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  18. Not asking WHAT the rule is, asking if it's erroneously enforced (OBR), is it appealable? Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  19. It was a hypothetical question. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  20. Had this question from a coach today. I've had the same 5 11u teams for 4 days. Day one, kid is taking the signs off the rubber. I tell him he has to be on the rubber to take his signs, coach walks to the line and says "that's a balk right?" "no coach" we continue play. After the inning same coach asks if that's not at all a balk or if it's not an age appropriate balk, I tell him it's not at all a balk, it's a don't do that. So today, after the championship same coach asks me if that erroneous balk is called on his team, would that call be appealable. I told him I believed that it would be as its really a rule interpretation not a judgement call but I wasn't absolutely positive. Was I right? Ps, these 5 11u AA ball players, coaches, and fans, we're the most respectful and positive groups I've ever umpired. For a Utrip worlds, it was a pleasure doing these games even in the 100 degree plus cook house of fields. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  21. Here, rain outs don't pay. Even if you're there and dressed. Unless you start the game, once the plate meeting ends, that's when we get paid. Cancelled games less than 24 hours (really it's 6) or no shows, then it's paid. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  22. Is this a zombie record? 5 years Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  23. Do the make floaties in mlb blue? Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  24. I'm actually making my own vest. I bought a memory foam mattress pad, some wicking sports material, and some wicking mesh. I'm going to re-engineer my padding altogether. If you can wait a few weeks, I'll tear apart the interior of one of the vests I'm cutting apart and will let you know what's possible. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
