    Angle vs Distance

Agreed. There is a thread on Facebook with a still shot from the 1B dugout of Gary Sanchez (#YoSoyGary #IAmGary lol) with a check swing from either Game 3 or Game 4 (I cant recall). The still looks a whole heck of a lot like he should have been rung up. But he wasnt. Neither the plate umpire nor U1 thought it was a swing. The best angle to see this is in the dugout. Not on the field. But here we are. Having to make this call from less than optimal position. The PU has just as much of an angle as U1 or U3 on a check swing. The only difference is that PU has other responsibilities first and more people directly in his vicinity to get in the way.

    Breakaway bases in FED

@Mister B, did he get his foot stuck on the turf itself or the in ground part of the base? I ask because you might get some satisfaction from the school if the field was in poor shape? Mind you, this is a guess on my part. And in no way to I have any clue about the legal system.

    Breakaway bases in FED

And being local, I can vouch for the fact that I have never been on an Oregon high school field that uses break away bases. I'm sorry to hear about your son. Ut you wont get any help from the rules for either Oregon or NFHS as a whole.

    NFHS changes 2019

Both states I have worked in my area have done the same. They are based off of CCA. But have some major differences to them. Especially when you start getting into 3 and 4 man mechanics (Washington in particular). Oregon calls it "Oregon Modified Mechanics Manual" while Washington simply refers to it as the "Washington State Mechanics Manual." Thankfully, they are close enough to CCA that it is not distracting and can be moved closer or further away depending on what the Crew Cheif for that game wants to do.

The other thing is the reviews. Yes, there are some decent reviews. But EVERY ONE OF THEM IS 5 STAR? That is beyond improbable.

    Schutt Scorpion leg guards

Not necessarily.... Wilson makes a fine product. But like everything else out there. People want to find if there is a better mousetrap. The Wilson shins are a great product and will stop anything and everything. But they are VERY bulky and VERY heavy when compared to others like Force3, Diamond, and Schutt. Rumor has it, that Wilson is in the works to modify there equipment into the modern era. The new harness was a step in the right direction. But we will see.
  8. I enjoyed thinking about the last one you listed. Also... how the hell do you miss ALL FOUR bases?

That is going to take some getting used to.

    Angle vs Distance

Also, I dont believe it has been mentioned. But in two man with multiple runner responsibilities. We can not gain to much distance as we may have to then turn and make a call all the way across the diamond on another runner. I.e. R2 and a bunt, play at first, throw back to 3rd. This would be the BU's call all the way around. And if you gain to much distance to 1st, it puts you out of position for that play into 3rd.

@MadMax, so what are your thoughts on if the CP is protective enough for college or varsity level HS?

    Schutt Scorpion leg guards

As a personal preference, I wouldn't got back there with anything less than the Force3 or a Wilson shin guard. But I also have never used a Schutt shin guard. I can also vouch for the Honigs K20 (and I think the K2010) shin guards as being a solid piece of equipment. Thought I would NEVER again wear one of their chest protectors.

What is the Over/Under on the number of times this will be brought up tomorrow when he has the plate in Game 4?
  17. BT_Blue

No. The only base that the pitcher needs to throw directly to is 1st (and 3rd if you are playing under OBR).

    Runner Hit by the ball

I believe that the batter would still be credited with reaching first on a Fielder's Choice. Even with 2 outs. As he would not come up to lead off the next half inning.

Since everyone has chimed in with "probably nothing" (which I agree with). I feel the need to add a clerical note. Since terminology matters in officiating, we can never have obstruction on a member of the offense. It will always be be interference.
