    Uh oh...

If hes holding him on second he still releases with the pitch towards his normal position doesnt he? Also a fly ball to second and he doesnt have enough time to go from second base to his normal position? I think its been answered on what to do after the fact.
  2. ^ agreed about wrestling. I also think its the one sport that if you didnt wrestle or at least be around it quiet a bit theres no way you can just read the rule book and become a good official.

    Uh oh...

I also would call iff here 100% of the time. Fly ball in the infield in fair teritory thats a catchable ball and not a line drive. How can you not call iff here? Of course I only call with fed rules so maybe im missing something. Bases loaded 1 out fly ball to second base. What am I missing?
  4. How in the world do you have a perect game in slow pitch? Thats got to be a first!
  5. Basketball, football, baseball, and wrestling. I go year round. If you know anything about football i highly suggest that. Nothing like the Friday night lights.
  6. Me and my partner disagree on carrying an indicator. I like being able to answer a coach or player if he ask the count or number of outs. Yes i know its simple to keep the number of outs, but college was really hard on my brain cells.
  7. Im in love with it now. Guess I better get ready to do twiced the laundry!
  8. I made my own this week and it worked great. Well at least for about 4 innings. Went to walmart and bout these long ice things for coolers. They were blue with squares. Cut them down to size. Put velcro on the inside of my cp and interestingly enough the velcro also held to the ice packs even after they were submerged in my cooler. I made 2 sets since I call 2 plates everyday. Total price with velcro and ice packs were under $20. Ill post some pice later if anyones interested.
  9. I just used it for a whole game. I loved it. Partner said I looked good in the stance. No problems getting up and moving around. I think ive found a new stance. My major comcern is being a shorter guy if I was to get behind a taller catcher it might present some problems. But today I stayed in the slot all day and my partner said I had my most consistent game of the summer.
  10. I never thought about the lagistics of getting up and running down first.
  11. At reds game last week the homplate umpire was on one knee all night for his stance. Anyone seen this before? I tried it in the last inning of a 14u game Monday night and it was actually comfortable and I saw the ball really well. I dont think im comfortable enough to do it during the prospect games I do Wed-Sunday but was thinking on the 4th game when im dog tired i might give it a try. Thoughts? Anyone use this stance?
  12. I watched a movie the other night with the same title.

  14. Pre game locker in the umpires room. This was the best part. Complete with 4 lockers, a tv, refrigerator, bathrooms, and showers. photo by csabo17, on Flickr photo by csabo17, on Flickr photo by csabo17, on Flickr
  15. I was mearly joking around as well. Not bragging. Btw, my games were 18U prospects from all over. If I was calling real college ball at that level I would be bragging about it though.
  16. Sorry, ill work my side of the street. Didnt mean to interfear. But I look at buying something I add shipping into the cost. So yes its $150 to me.
  17. No, I only got to work 4 games wednesday at the university of Cincinnati, 4 games thursday at xavier university, 4 games Friday at Northern Ky University, 4 games Saturday at Miami University, and 3 games today again Im tired!
  18. $150, isnt that how much this is brand new from ump attire?
  19. 8-2-5 ART. 5 . . . If a runner who misses any base (including home plate) or leaves a base too early, desires to return to touch the base, he must do so immediately. If the ball becomes dead and the runner is on or beyond a succeeding base, he cannot return to the missed base and, therefore, is subject to being declared out upon proper and successful appeal. PENALTY (Art. 1 through 5): For failure to touch a base (advancing and returning), or failure to tag up as soon as the ball is touched on a caught fly ball, the runner may be called out if an appeal is made by the defensive team. The defense may appeal during a live ball immediately following the play and before a pitch (legal or illegal), granting an intentional base on balls, or before the next play or attempted play. If the offensive team initiates a play before the next pitch, the defensive team does not lose the right to appeal. A live-ball appeal may be made by a defensive player with the ball in his possession by tagging the runner or touching the base that was missed or left too early. A dead-ball appeal may be made by a coach or any defensive player with or without the ball by verbally stating that the runner missed the base or left the base too early. Appeals must be made (1) before the next legal or illegal pitch; (2) at the end of an inning, before the pitcher and all infielders have left fair territory; (3) before an intentional base on balls is granted; or (4) on the last play of the game, an appeal can be made until the umpires leave the field of play. NOTE: When a play by its very nature is imminent and is obvious to the offense, defense and umpire(s), no verbal appeal is necessary, e.g. runner attempting to retouch a base that was missed, or a failure to tag up and a throw has been made to that base or plate while a play is in progress. The way I read this it can be handled with either a live ball or dead ball appeal. Gramted my original thought was they had to appeal. I thought they would have to step on the rubber then step off and throw to second. But this is saying they can do that or tag the runner standing on first or walk over and touch second base. Correct?
  20. R1 0/1 outs. Fly ball to the gap, runner rounds second heading for third. Cf makes diving catch. Runner starts back towards second but cuts across in front of second base just above the grass cutout. Im pretty sure its simply an out if the throw beats him to first, easy out. Now if he slides in and beats the throw do you automatically call him out for cutting across, or do you make your safe call and wait for the defense to appeal? Nfhs rules if that matters here. I was thinking it was simple, but another umpire told me something else so I want to get some feedback.
  21. In my short career I hadnt seen anyone thrown out at first on a base hit to right field, really not even many attempts. Today in 18u wood bat tourney full of traveling prospect teams I had a kid thrown out from right field. I was just talking about it the next game to the first base coach, then booom it happens again. So thats great twiced in one day. But the fun wasnt over, in this same game it happens Two more times! Two was the same kid, and he wasnt loafing. He busted his tail the second time and if he hadnt slid head first probably would of beat it out. Crazy how i havent seen it in 5 years them it happens 4 times in one day! Is their a correct mechanic as far as positioning for setting up on a throw from right field to first?
  22. Sounds like my schedule for the summer. Your not in cincinnati are you? I start on sometimes Wednesday or Thursdays through Sumday. Calling 4 sometimes 5 games a day except on Sunday only 3. Me and my partner rotate plates every game. I do get one week off between last week and the first week of August.
  23. So sunday after our last game we go watch Cincy and Detroit. For the first time we sat left field front row. So after sitting through bp and a few innings I need to pee and pay $9 for a beer. Now while im gone i hear/see a homerun. When I get back my three buddys are raising hell with me and laughing. Come to find out the ball hit dead center of my empty seat. Would of hit me in the chest had i been sitting there. So shortly after all phones start ringing and its everyones family telling them they just saw them on espn fighting for the hr ball. Everyones except mine. The dumbasses did manage to knock each other out of picking the ball up so at least i didnt have to sit and look at the ball all night.
