. “The batter-runner should attempt to reach base safely and then inform the umpire that his call was in error” I had to chuckle a little reading this. All I can think of is a fictitious case play something along the lines of “ batter hits a ball to RF that is clearly fair and the ball hops over the wall. The umpire signals “ foul”. Ruling “ the batter should know this is a fair ball two base award. . He should continue running the bases and stop at 2B and then inform the umpire his call was incorrect.” 😂😂😂

I’m torn. Case plays tell us players are responsible to know when IFF is in effect if the umpire errors on the call. . ( BTW, not my favorite FED interp. That’s umpire error just like calling a catch/ no catch wrong and should be fixed, but I digress). That said, I’m not OK with a defensive player yelling it out. I’ve got verbal obstruction there if that ball drops and runners aren’t sure where to be. I think l we should fix it. From the Stands? I have nothing unless someone’s got a “ spectator verbal interference” interp. edit to add - @SeeingEyeDog I have no problem with letting the play stand as you did. Do you think your crew would have ruled differently had one of you known for sure it was a defensive player that yelled out IFF?

That’s worded a little odd. Do they mean not allowed to return to second after going back to correct the miss of 1b? Or not allowed to return to 1b to touch……. And stay there. Or not allowed to do either?

I really think it's more a loophole in the wording of these rules.....Like I said, these rules are almost exclusively for fixing baserunning errors during dead ball base awards more than fixing baserunning errors after the play is over. It's not in the spirit of the rule, and I don't think it's intended to be interpreted this way.

Yep. You literally have to stare at his right knee and you can see a slight knee buckle. I watched it 4 times just staring at his knee. I saw it buckle in two of my four viewings. It’s that slight. Maybe it looked more pronounced from a different angle. But yeah, ticky tack I think.

I’m almost positive this action drew warnings from the crew. Another reason the bat flip was really a no brainer EJ. These two were back and forth at each other all weekend. That’s when action has to be taken. Our college group has been stressing the need to “ read the room”. Be aware of the reactions from the opposing dugout. Be aware of the celebrating team’s actions and where the “ celebrations” are being directed. There’s many variables in how we handle these things. Thats why they also stress we get together as crew and exchange info and thoughts. Identical bat flips in one game may only necessitate a warning while the same flip in another game may very well be an ejectable flip.

Wow .. talk about using rules to create problems instead of to solve problems. Hopefully somehow this can be appealed and common sense will prevail

No offense to anyone. But this has got to be one of the more asinine discussions Ive ever seen here. Every one of you arguing that the BR can miss first, pull onto 2B, call time, then go back and touch 1b and return to 2B are using rules, interps and case plays where the ball is dead because of the throw or batted ball going out of play and base running awards need to be awarded. The OP is a dead ball because playing action has ended. cmon guys…… are you seriously arguing that a guy can hit an in play double, cut the corner at 1b, slide into second, call time, then go back and touch 1b. C’mon….this isn’t Calvin Ball.

Our association actually gave us hard copies this year. Which is good, because the new FED app for the e books is horrible, and I can’t figure out where to find the ‘24 casebook.

Good job by FED differentiating between a runner 45 feet away and a runner not sliding right at the bag. Too bad the proof readers missed the fact that they left out the word NOT in 8.4.2(y) 🙃

Almost forgot I have this too. Love this little organizer. https://www.ump-attire.com/Products/ULF-UBAGV2/UMPLIFE-UBag-Organizer-V2

Glad I could help. It’s a great harness. I was glad to see it was a defect in production and not a manufacturing change. Ump attire is the best for customer service. If only some other companies ( not necessarily umpire or even sports) could follow this business model.

Alice is always a great show. I saw that tour. First show post Covid I believe. I must have seen Alice 7-8 times. Saw him last summer with the “Hollywood Vampires”…. Alice, Joe Perry and Johnny Depp on guitars. Great show.

Love all the products. I use umplife mask harness, lineup holder, hat keeper, and ball bags. I think the ball bags are my favorite. They hold a ton of baseballs comfortably and hand access into the bag is super easy. After a full season I see no noticeable fading yet.

I bought the harness last year it was perfect. I bought another for a new mask this year and it would not clamp down just like yours. I compared the buckles and found the new one only had two rows of those little “grippers” under the buckles to secure the strap. My old one has four(see pic). Ump attire replaced mine when we found this defect. If your buckles only have two rows, get in touch with Hunter at Ump Attire. He knows about this now. They will replace.

I like the logic and I’m good with allowing the smart R1’s run to count. But the chances of this are rare. What do we do in the more likely scenario @BLWizzRanger proposes? if R2 misses third, “scores” , R1 and BR touch 2nd and 1st respectively, and join the dog pile. And then defense appeals. Is it abandonment by both and the inning is over? Or do we go with R1 R2 one out? I think someone’s getting ejected either way. I’d love a real interp on this. As it’s not a third world play.

He’s playing a few places around here NJ/NY/CT. I didn’t look at the 2 nights in NY, but the CT show is just about sold out with some orchestra seats available for $750or more each. There’s no lawn at that place. Camden NJ also had very few seats left…. The cheapest bring $600 each. They have lawn “ seats” just under $100. You can stand, sit in the grass or rent a chair( another $30. Hard pass for me.

What's interesting about this OP is R2 is the game winning run. The game ends at that point. The chances of R1 being that aware, and continuing to run are slim, and I'm not sure it's even a live ball at that point. Chances are both runners are going to join the dogpile that follows R2 "scoring". We would absolutely honor an appeal of the miss of 3B by R2, but would we allow further outs for abandonment of the batter runner and R1? That's a pretty dirty end of the sick. Interesting to say the least. I doubt I can find any kind of interp for this, but I think you just have to umpire here...The game "ended" when R2 scored. No further live play is possible. BR and R1 can't score, can't be tagged out, can't be accused of abandonment. After successful appeal, R1 to 3B, BR to 1B, one out.

May be r1/r2. OP doesn’t specify 😉

Ive seen the argument on social media that this could be tangle/untangle. I don’t buy it, but I guess you could interpret it as such. My opinion, the tangle/ untangle ship sailed after the batter stutter steps and allows F2 access to the ball.
-
I’m hoping NCAA uses this in a weekly video with an interp. Until then I like the idea that “in the act of fielding “ hasn’t ended until the ball is released unhindered.
