    Need Pants!

I just got the Smitty Poly/Spandex pants last fall and I absolutely love them. Very light, breathable, but still sturdy.

    Balk-batter hits ball everyone freezes

Just to clarify, no balk gives a coach a choice. The balk is either enforced, or it's not. No options.

    First games of the year!

I'm scheduled to open a week from Saturday...forecast in STL that day is rainy and 47. But that could turn into snow and 20, or sunny and 60 between now and then. Welcome to Missourah!

    Thirsty Pitcher

Why are you allowing a college player to dip? In my neck of the woods, that's a big no-no.

    Assigning Expectations

That's not even close to the same situation.

When is it time to hang it up?

I've always said I'll stop umpiring/officiating when it isn't fun anymore. When/if there comes at time where I don't look forward to stepping onto the field, court or rink, I know I'm done.

    Weight Loss Group

Like others have said, changing your diet and drinking lots of water should make huge impact. Another way to keep active, especially in the off-season, is to officiate another sport. I officiate basketball and inline hockey. I try to drink 80-100 ounces of water per day at minimum, have cut out sodas (even diet ones), and have severely reduced my beer intake. Another program you might want to look at is called the Whole30. I'm in the middle of my first round with it, and enjoy it. A friend of mine lost 20lbs following that program in one month. It focuses on whole foods, no grains, no dairy, and no added sugar.

    How cold is too cold?

My coldest was a few years ago, probably March 2014 in Northeastern Missouri. NAIA DH, 27 degrees at first pitch, a balmy 31 by the time we were done. No snow or ice, just cold.

The Best Way to Get Evaluations

I would agree with most of what has been said here so far. Camps/Clinics are probably the best way to get evaluated. I also would try not to have friends evaluate you, as they might be as honest and direct as someone less familiar to you. The most important thing I think is for you to come up with a plan...where you are now in your career, where you want to be, and how you plan to get there. Once you can answer those questions, it will be easier to help you as far as trying to find the best way to help you reach your ultimate goals.

    Manager Warning

I agree with @noumpere, but definitely understand where Rich is coming from. If the runner stays on the base on his own without being instructed to do so, that's one thing. If the coach tells the runner to stay on the base and not go to the dugout, to me that's him showing me up, telling me that he says he's safe so he stays there.

Your desire to no longer participate is confirmed........

I'm going to have to agree with @lawump here. Do you typically toss for profanity at that level? #1 (if it was without warning), #2 and #4 sound like very quick triggers without me being there. At this age, unless its profanity directed at me, I'm likely not ejecting. Just my opinion, YMMV.
  13. MUAump2

I would definitely not eject for that, and honestly I probably wouldn't acknowledge him saying anything. As for the kid asking your partner what he thought, I'd probably say something along the lines of "I don't know, he had a much better look than I did."

    Crazy Schedule

Just out of curiosity, but why would you want to work 5 or 6 games in a single day? Unless for financial reasons, I can't really see a reason to do it. I don't really care who you are, but there's no way you can be as sharp in the 7th inning of game 6 as you were in the first inning of game 1. Even if money is the motivator, I would much rather do a legion DH or something than spend 14+ Hours on or enroute to or from a baseball field. Maybe for me it's the fact that my family doesn't rely on umpiring as significant income, and I just umpire because I enjoy it. I have done the 6 games in a day on Saturday and Sunday back when I needed to, and it was awful. Not knocking those that do it, just curious as to your thought process. Disclaimer: these days, I only work 1 or 2 games a day (3 if assigner is in a pinch) and at max 4 days per week. I feel like when I was doing so many games in a short period of time, I wasn't enjoying it as much and it felt much more like a job.
