  1. I grew up with a kid who didn't even have a glove for the baseball team. He was a courtesy runner. He knew it & was comfortable with it.
  2. You can take the subs. The only real reason to deny a projected sub is for the reason the OP states. It's practical to take them at that time...but if anything changes in between, allow the change.
  3. Nope, you're geo fenced. So if your team is the Mariners and you happen to be in Houston for the weekend, you're gonna be able to watch Seattle...unless of course they're playing Houston.
  4. Here's another one...IFF example:
  5. Yes, but that's not the relevant piece of this clip. The clip is excellent to use as an example of the type of play illustrated in the OP
  6. MLB TV is one of the best purchases out there. All out of market game plus audio/radio on ALL games.
  7. I work a fair amount of games alone....I like tunes for that...or I put an MLB game on and listen to that while I'm getting ready.
  8. Interference by a runner who is standing on their base on an airborne batted ball must be intentional. Here's an example of a play..the crew unfortunately got this wrong, but it's a pretty good example to illustrate that intent is required.
  9. For sure. We see this on back picks and a LH batter hitting.
  10. The OP reads "Starts to steal 3B" so we need to take that at face value. But if they have an initial throw provision like OBR, we need to stop it and enforce the BI because R2 was not retired on the initial throw by F2. So whatever happens after that is irrelevant. To your first point about balks....obr covers bluffs versus an actual attempt to acquire the next base. A bluff should be ruled a balk and that's the judgement piece. (We love judgement don't we?) 🙂
  11. Don't try to be too cute with this. This sounds like follow through interference. Clean umpiring says to grab this. Occam's razor...which essentially means that the simplest path to the answer is your answer. Batter is responsible for controlling their swing, including the follow through. Grab the out.
  12. Off hand, I can't remember if NFHS has "retired on the initial throw" interpretation that OBR has, but in my mind, what the runner does once they start stealing the base isn't necessarily relevant to batter interference or not. An attempt to retire a runner is a play. The throw to F5 at 3B is an attempt to retire the runner, the runner chose to retreat to 2B. The batter is out and the runner remains at 2B. F2s throw to F5 at 3B is an attempted play. Let's say a rundown ensues....I would suggest to the forum that once the initial throw fails to retire the runner, we stop play and enforce the BI. What do you think?
  13. Yes. When the attempt to put out the runner is unsuccessful, we enforce the penalty:
  14. Hmmm...I did not receive said email. Let us know when they go on sale!
  15. I think there are a couple of approaches. Back picks at 3B are extremely rare in my neck of the woods. A half swing appeal is much more likely and from B, we're much more credible. So...if you hedge, you're in a better spot for more plays working B. That being said, if your boss wants you in C, then you'd better be in C.
  16. The entire purpose of the projected substitution rule is to prevent this exact scenario. Here's a play from the 2017 Preseason Guide
  17. There is no rule against retreat as the OP describes above in baseball. Here's a nice example of the F3 not knowing the rule.
  18. Wait until people try to argue that requiring runner to slide between the legs of the defender who is straddling in front of the base is considered allowing access. I think that's more insane.
  19. Nope. That's a projected substitute which is prohibited by rule. Do not allow the courtesy runner.
  20. Back in 2008...the NFHS Baseball slide states that the fielder must allow "access" but it was not defined as total and complete access...simply access...which also might not be the access most desired by the offense.
  21. I think they've been instructed to call the heck out of it in spring training so they have time to adjust.
