  1. Equipment Suggestions?

    There-I fixed it for you!
  2. All American CP? Paint chipping off padding

@jwclubbie After looking at the spandex covering the foam on the shoulder cap, the fabric looks loose. I wonder if there is a way to bond that fabric to the foam a little better, like using spray adhesive when placing the spandex over the foam? Did you discuss that with them at all?
  3. All American CP? Paint chipping off padding

That looks great! @mbkcoach and I were talking about this very thing last summer, and I was pretty sure at that time that an upholstery shop is the way to go to get pads replaced or refurbished when you can't get the original manufacturer to do it. This is proof positive.
  4. New Wilson helmet

That is one spendy bucket that doesn't look that spendy. It looks more like a youth catcher's helmet to me. I give Wilson an A for trying to innovate, but a C- for execution. Just my anyway.
  5. Celebrating 10 Years

Congrats, Warren, and thanks for the recognition! You have done a tremendous job with this site. What appealed to me was the fact that you were very emphatic about keeping negativity off of the site. That was a an extremely important move on your part, and you should be commended. I can't think back to origins of this site without also thinking about @mstaylor As far as members are concerned, Mike was another major reason why this site was so appealing to the masses. He was an outstanding wealth of knowledge, and a better human being. I think I speak for us all when I say he is missed. On the lighter side, how about a list of humorous posts/threads/posters over the years? (In good fun, not mean spirited, of course). The first one that comes to my mind is: "Umpire number (XX), what is that mask he is wearing? I must have it."
  6. Transaction Experience Thread

Recently had another pleasant transaction with @wolfe_man The mask is great, looks like a great addition to the rotation.
  7. Just get one of these and put it on upside down like in the picture. It worked for Nuke LaLoosh and his “quadrophonic Blaupunkt.”
  8. Force3 Defender doesn't help here....

Having the springs is a good concept, I just don’t think the construction is well thought out with being held into place with screws and brackets like that. God forbid a screw or spring pops out and heads straight for an eye. Like a lot of things in the quest for better technology, you may solve one problem, but it could create a new one. Just my 2 cents, anyway.
  9. Keeping shoes white

I usually use water in a spray bottle and a rag after games, then once a week or so I hit it with my power steamer I got for $99 Friday m Amazon . Works like a champ.
  10. Ebay finds

This one's a beaut! http://www.ebay.com/itm/All-Star-System-7-Seven-Adult-2-Two-Piece-Traditional-Catchers-Umpire-Mask-Black-/112543376839?hash=item1a341ba5c7:g:B14AAOSw5TlZkogE "The mask is in good condition with signs of wear as seen in the picture. It was used for a complete season but still has plenty of life left in it." As a door stop?
  11. ball bags no interior pockets

The Smitty XL bags have pockets with openings on the top of the bag. They aren't extra pieces of fabric sewn in. They don't get in the way at all. I got a pair this past season, and they were great. https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Bags-Tools/Ball-Bags/S383_Smitty-Deluxe-XL-Expandable-Umpire-Ball-Bag
  12. In some ways, the discreet, low key delivery of certain magic words, irritates me more than when they show me up in front of everyone. Doing it either way will activate my trigger finger, but saying something quietly that they know will get them run, is kind of a dick move in my opinion. If you got something to say, be a man about it, then take your medicine.
  13. All I kept thinking while watching that video was: "Those light blue pads actually look pretty damn good in that black mask."
  14. Hydro Dipped Mask

Inspired by all of the great ideas on this board, as well as that hideous American flag mask, I decided to try something unique. The funny thing is, while I waited for my mask to get done over the past several weeks, some of you all started sharing chest protectors that you vinyl wrapped with a carbon fiber print. I don't like to talk about something until I have it in hand. I guess I don't want to jinx it or something. So, I looked around locally for someone that could do this for me, and found a shop that did. For those that have never heard of it, it's a fairly recent method of coating a metal surface using film and actuator chemicals that forms a bond that is very durable. It's become very popular in the automotive (rims, engine parts, trim) as well as the firearms industry. My first thought was that I wanted to do a carbon fiber print. These guys did an amazing job. The pictures look pretty good, but they don't do it justice. It is an amazing looking mask, in my opinion. Anyway, I wanted to share it with you all, and see what you think. For those that are curious about the price, I'm sure it varies by the area you live, but I paid $100. I know, it was spendy, but I look at it as less than a doubleheader.
  15. Hydro Dipped Mask

That's a good price. Just wanted to give you a heads up, if anyone gets this done, I was given 2 options-a semi gloss finish, or a high gloss finish. I went with the semi gloss. It gave it more of a matte finish, which is what I preferred. I didn't want it super glossy. Also, if you want to get adventurous, you can do the CF in different colors also.
  16. Football reconditioners or repair places?

Just curious how you are going to encase it in whatever fabric you are going to use? Looking at the pads on my Wilsons, it seems like the nylon is bonded to the foam. I was thinking that maybe a spray adhesive would be best to bond the fabric to it?
  17. Hydro Dipped Mask

Thanks man! None yet. I would imagine actual CF would be pretty expensive, no?
  18. Hydro Dipped Mask

Yeah I should have done a little better job on my homework, but that's what I heard all through school! Oh well, I just finished a tourney that I made a ton of cash at, so it doesn't hurt too much. I just found another place locally that looks like it would be less expensive. Yeah, my lead time was 4 weeks, which I didn't mind, since I had a couple other masks I was able to use.
  19. Hydro Dipped Mask

Those were my thoughts, exactly. You can also get DIY kits as well, but I'm not crafty enough to trust that i would do a good job.
  20. Hydro Dipped Mask

From what I have read, it's very durable. It's used on rifle stocks quite a bit, with the most common complaint being that over time, the sling has a tendency to rub a wear mark. Time will tell, but it should be just fine.
  21. Hydro Dipped Mask

Check around, you might find a shop locally that would do it for a lot less than you'd think. I may have paid too much, but it wouldn't be the first time.
  22. Hydro Dipped Mask

Thanks guys. @MadMax-yes, there is a definitely a "quantity discount" so to speak. The place that did it has a $500 minimum, but they did it for less because it was added to a production run they were getting ready to do anyway. The mask itself is a Wilson Dyna Lite aluminum I picked up for $75, so with this finish, I have $175 into it. Based on what masks are going for these days, I think it's a pretty fair amount to have into a mask that is, for now, a one of a kind. Now my thoughts have turned to dipping the outer shell parts of one of my CP's to match. (Not the Riddell) Not sure if I would get the same $100 deal though. It would also be labor intensive, because if I want to do it right, I would have to drill out the rivets to disassemble the parts, and then reassemble it after. Maybe that could be an off-season project. Hmmmm...
  23. Ump Ejects Himself

He's also a career .244 in 12 years in this elite league, and a whopping .194 this season, so yeah, he's a trusted expert on balls and strikes as well.
