    3 man

all right @MadMax, are you using your astute observation skills that you saw, from when you were a player on the field (i.e. catcher=leader on the field, as the only player with the whole field in front of him) watching the umpires the whole game with their positioning, or your former padawan training once you moved over to the dark side or the force? Glad you got that RLI into the equation for when the 3B really comes charging in and makes that throw off the left foot and essentially ends up where the catcher would throw to 1B if he had got to the ball first, or maybe even the pitcher. Nice explanation for the whole sitch. Of course, there could be organizations or MLBU (but that is a 4 man) that let you start in C or even go outside like the old red jacket AL, but that has its disadvantages too, as all positioning (X marks the secret square) does. P.S. while a player, did you practice copying all the MLB umpires K3 (as opposed to a backwards K3) calls, or were you not into that. just asking. thanks again for getting that RLI in there.
  2. as has been mentioned. maybe this has been missed during regular season inadvertently, but as we all know, there is film out there everywhere that can go back to the Conference Office or to the NCAA itself for anything. and, just like in HS, you get to those playoffs, and you have a very high chance of a state representatives at those games, and they are definitely looking for any and all violations of the POE for the year or anything to do with sportsmanship and anything else illegal. and to not address poor sportsmanship or the POE bulletins, would probably go into the back of their minds and put one in the cross hairs for future post season assignments. just IMHO, but what do i know - anyone for a call to Randy Bruns????

  4. about your only chance to jump in there is with those scrimmage games in the spring, where everyone is really trying to bone up on their 2 man, or somehow sneaking into a fall ball situation maybe to help out with a 3 or even 4 man at some higher levels, or maybe even the higher levels in spring again also.
  5. Here are your new rules for next year. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/highschool/2023/05/17/high-school-basketball-eliminates-1-and-1-free-throws/70227867007/
  6. I believe they will tell us they can adjust to one or the other just not to both. But @madmax is the former player who knows about this stuff, especially since he might have been a catcher, which also gives him an extra 100 points advantage from the get go, for becoming an excellent/superstar/phenom etc. umpire that gets/and earns lots of opportunity and lots of games.
  7. 1. not making excuses here. sooner or later it seems like u are bound to get hit by a throw, not just a batted ball. it's just if you get hit by some wild throw or not. obviously if this is a ding-able boo boo, he will get dinged on his evaluation, just like all of us. thoughts and my mind doesn't think correctly. runner on first, is he a steal threat or has very good speed even if teams analytics say not to steal on a left hander. was he moving or stealing on the pitch or have a large lead? 1BU will be up closer for pick-off due to left hand pitcher advantage of having runner right in front or him. obviously with runner on first, he will not be in the normal position behind 1B like with nobody on, or on grass if 1B is deep. so, deep ball to 3B. it looks like runner was already at second with a lot of speed, 2BU is releasing to go to third. looks like PU is releasing to go to third like a base hit rotation since ball is so deep and runner is fast. 1BU must now move towards home if HPU is calling 2BU off for a possible play at 3B since the throw takes longer and runner at 2B now may go to 3B. 1BU who had originally moved over in dirt for double play when ball hit, now see's/hears HPU break for 3rd. now 1BU must go on infield side of 1B and start home with a rotation. oops, misjudged being in the line of fire cutout more than planned and was hit. in some older pictures, believe i caught Jerry Crawford moving to inside of infield at cutout on a potential double play ball since he was basically so close to the bag for a pick-off to start with. rather than backpeddling and risk mis-stepping/tripping and falling on his butt to get into the dirt area, he just stepped across first base and went to the infield cutout in the grass. however this was not a double play attempt at 2B and then 1B. just in case one ever sees that. not all guys would do that, and it may not have been proper mechanics/frowned upon back in the day when Crawford did that, but that is what looked like Crawford did in a old youtube double play situation i once saw. great play to be ejected on if you are the manager. especially if you are on a losing streak, or if this is not exactly your favorite crew for whatever reason. just argue, then say some ejectable words or make jestures to show the umpires up, or get a delay of game ejection for arguing to long.

  9. ah, the beauty of baseball. even if we can decide what it is and what it isn't on the things above, good old judgment comes into play every time. just like the strike zone, even if everyone is on board with what it is and what it isn't, some are better at judging than others, as is obvious by the stats that can now be kept. heck, they were always kept, just may have been wider zone or smaller zone back over history, and everyone's judgment was different even though everyone agreed to the written strike zone and what it was and wasn't. even if you let catchers call the zone, bet a dollar to donuts they would have different zones even though they all agreed with the defined zone and what it is or isn't. great for an argument call, just like did it hit the hand or the bat, or did he throw at the batter or not, or did he or did he not commit runner interference going down the first base line, or did the fielder obstruct or not obstruct or the old Armbrister scramble unscramble call/no call. then the manger gets to go argue his case, which could turn into an outright rant with profanity, insults, hand gestures, bumps, showing up, and an ejection, sometimes just to fire up his team (that leads to another judgment for us at UE to decide, did he argue vehemently to fire up his team, or was it because he was really that upset at the call. can we read the managers mind even though it does not matter, for us here). judgment is running rampant as usual, and baseball is still pretty much one of the only places where if you feel like you have been wronged, you can go let it out on the person in charge (try it with your boss, including the loudness and crudity of language, in front of everybody at work, and see where it gets you. maybe you want to throw in a bump or two just to see where that gets you at work in the process. so why do all these bad actors creating incidents at amateur player fields, not go let it out on their bosses when they disagree with them like they do on umpire. hip hip hurray for judgment. even if the call is overturned to get the call correct, in this day and age, pity those who do not have the resources available to get the call right in the end, other than a conference only. and you know what, maybe those in the replay booth miss from time to time. go call New York, Chelsea, oh where-ever. need a dime, quarter, cell phone?
  10. or you could go shock doctor titanium cup if that cup and supporter for the cup are still around and worn over the boxer brief.
  11. socks .88 per pair -- limit 2 pair per order, through the month of may if you were going to order and like the force3 ultimate socks.
  12. restitution = kept in the lifestyle you have become accustomed too?
  13. I L-O-V-E the second strike for not being being ready because he was choosing to spend time running his mouth. Maybe that is a solution for baseball as a preemptive, to an ejection, like the 2 technicals in hoops or a yellow card first in some sports, as people always say baseball goes right into ejection mode without other discipline first. Call a strike on the batter or a ball on the pitcher, or 2 strikes/2 balls if they want it more punitive, or a batter gets an automatic walk or pitcher automatic k.
  14. i am not saying what you saw was the ump himself or the company contracted to haul their gear from city to city. If you Google it, or go to some old games on you tube, you might find where the umps had to scavage up/use some players gear and go on the field. Sometimes the shipping of the priesmeyers/trunks/new soft equipment bags, have a shipping snafu and arrive late or not at all. I would imagine in this day and age there just might be some old used gear in every locker room that could be salvaged to use, but used shoes might not be one the items, nor is anyone on your crew the same size to help.
  15. if you want to try officiating the sports with more personal physical movement involved for the official, do what @madmax says and go for the hockey, soccer, basketball and in 2 of those 3 u still have the weather elements. If you want more comraderie, then football with i believe 5 guys for a high school game try that. To knock out the weather elements, volleyball or swimming to go along with basketball and wrestling (sorry, not choreographed wrestling as Rick Flair says) are some choices. Or, just block a few more personal sanity days on the calendar and watch bull Durham reruns with max patkin, or a super slow pitch softball game if you like high scoring games that use a ball and bat.
  16. right at 43.9 going into 44.1 he flinches with that back (right) knee
  17. As SH0102 has mentioned, the Major League Umpire Manual (which is not the Major League Media Guide) is basically more like the NFHS baseball case book. However, it is mainly just distributed to the MLBU staff and call ups. This comes from a guy who went to the umpire school years ago and once he figured out he was not going to make it, he started asking the questions you shouldn't ask, and he did not ask them in class, he asked them privately after class. If a situation happens, outside of the rule book and manual, then the crew chief is sent an email memo or phone call on how they want things handled throughout the year. Then those new situations are probably added into the following years manual. With the new rules added this year, it would seem that there would be more memos sent out than in prior years as things shake out during the season. 18. So let's do it and give CC all the credit, but it is not happening. Any idea why?
  19. might be, with trouble getting umpires and all, much less those who have lost a step and know they cannot sprint from a deep A due to 1B playing back, to beat a speedy runner to 2B, regardless of whether they rim the diamond or come in and pivot. They might just want to think about starting 1BU in the infield to start with. Is the umpire embarrassed now that they cannot beat the runner, sure and they give it up. But, maybe, just maybe, if they could start on the infield from the get go they may hang in a couple more years. The PU always has the fair/foul catch/no catch down the left field line all game anyway with the BU in A, B and C. So expanding that same play down right field for PU all the time, and BU starting in B might keep guys in the game longer. and no i am not talking about till 110 years old either. of course i have seen games where teams got normal base hits all day long, or the batter walked and 1BU spent 98% of the time in B and C all day anyway. In that game the PU had lots of balls down the left and right field line and catch no catch for all 100% of the line calls that game any way. And in that game the PU had the line and diving catch/no catch within a foot of the line, 1 in left and 1 in right field with the BU in B once and C once, the coach did come out and asked if the PU he could check, just on the diving catch/no catch not the fair foul within a foot of the line. They got together and the catch call, out, stood. And, if an umpire gets a foot injury where they can move some but not 100%, working a few games from only B and C would help, rather than not have a field umpire at all due to availability. Would imagine that situation of an injured umpire working the infield from B and C only has happened somewhere sometime anyway.

  22. Do you get drilled or some chin music (or a hard bone crushing foul going down the lane in this case) for this in hoops. Why in baseball then? https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/chris-paul-suns-nba-sign-stealing-signal-thief/tkql0qjytn0tcykyqwxuqb7y
  23. By now, somebody can identify this guy. Let's get that name and the company he works for in the paper. Would not want to work or take the chance of working for his company, with the employee in the film working there, that exhibits this type of personal behavior (personal violence) either on or off the company property. Keep us posted on who this guy is, and what company he works for, since the rec department did not identify him. Once again, why would/should someone want to take the chance of working with him at the company he works for, so get his name and the company name out in the local news media outlets for all to see and hear and do us all a favor.
