  2. WTF??? I am not the first, nor will I be the last, to say that the only ejections you will regret will be the ones you do not pull the trigger on.
  3. Alright, here’s my first war story. 8u baseball. Score is 0-0 in top of the 2nd. HTAC informs the VTHC that their pitcher is at 57 pitches. Way past the limit of 42. So they change the pitcher. He walks in 5 runs and we reach the limit. Next inning HT has to make a change. He walks in 5 runs. Score is now 5-5! Near the end of this 2nd inning, VTAC is telling his batters not to swing because HT pitcher is throwing balls. I honestly didn’t pay full attention to what was said, but as of writing this, VTAC is banned from coming to games in that league. So I definitely handled this wrong or heard something wrong. Anyway, HTHC takes umbrage with this. “He’s an 8 year old kid! Don’t be like that!” “You’re telling them not to swing before the balls even crossed the plate” In the middle of each coaches respective diatribe, I get in the middle and say “we’re not doing this.” a good 3-4 times. I try to slow down the HTHC before just saying “if you keep going like that, I’ll have to put you in the dugout.” He tells me to tell the VT staff to stop causing trouble. I tell them that and they claim they’re just coaching, and say to HTHC “stop complaining.” I didn’t think I had to warn them. At that point. So the Inning ends. HTHC comes to me and I forget what he’s saying for the most part, but I just said “Coach, all I see them doing is telling batters not to swing at bad pitches.” VTAC comes in defending himself and here we go again. HTHC repeats “he’s an 8 year old kid!” VTAC: Are you a f#$&ing 8 year old kid? (I feel bad for looking back on this and laughing, because HTHC in question is such a nice guy.) I give VTAC a warning for profanity. All I remember afterwards is VTAC complaining about the HTAC tracking their pitchers count, when I’ve heard no rule prohibiting that. Eventually VTAC just says “you know what? I’m gonna stop talking.” And goes and apologizes to HTHC. Rest of the game went on fine. Then I saw HTHC again today. He asks if the league touched base with me on that and tells me the VTAC in question got banned from coming to games. Season long? Lifetime? I don’t know. He tells me I warned him when he was trying to help me, (VTAC was talking to my players and not me) like I said I wish I handled it differently/paid more attention, but it’s good now. What I saw, was the HTHC started it (why shouldn’t you tell your kids to not swing? But, I didn’t hear everything said. I mostly block out coaches) and VTAC escalated it and I should’ve ejected him for calling HTHC a “f#*&&# 8 year old kid” In my defense though, when it’s come down to profanity, I’ve only dealt with coach on players, and coach on umpire (aka me, and I ejected that guy) I’ve never dealt with coach on coach profanity, and at the time I didn’t know what else to do. Anyway that’s my first war story. (Not ending in an EJ. Might upload that particular one later.)

Dump the asst. and restrict HC?

Under FED rules, if an assistant is ejected, the manager must be restricted to the dugout. Note: I heard that while lurking this board last year and not sure if that still applies, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
  5. Cubs Manager Joe Maddon protested Saturday's Cubs-Nationals game, asserting HP Umpire Sam Holbrook's crew failed to apply Official Baseball Rule 5.07(a) Comment to Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle, alleging that Doolittle took a prohibited second step during his delivery, and that the umpires... Minor League Stealing a base

So if the pitcher ignores, and pitches to the batter with the runner still standing/dancing/whatever, then he's just "left early" right? This isn't LL softball...

Thanks. I had a feeling it was. But you never know. I like to think of it as just good timing! Lol This would be the second or third time in recent memory, right.

You said immediately advance or go back. That's the look back rule. And there's a play in progress - play it.

Dump the asst. and restrict HC?

NFHS: Batter grounds to F6, wild throw to first past F3. Runner takes a step to 2nd as F2 gets ball throws to F3 for the out on BR. Asst. at first screams at base ump then gets dumped. Is the HC supposed to be restricted at this point?

Batter-Runner Interference on Bunt or Hit Close to Home?

Sounds like tangle/untangle. Was the runner doing what was expected; running to first? Was the catcher doing what was expected as well? Straight out of the gate, just coming out of the box, most likely this is nothing.

    Minor League Stealing a base

Didn’t say there was a look back. Runner can go, or runner can go back. He cannot just stay off the bag forever.
  15. I searched this but couldn't find it, although I'm guessing it's been asked and answered before so my apologies. NFHS rules. Right-handed batter bunts or takes a full swing, but the net result is the same, a ball a short distance away from home plate. The catcher quickly moves out from behind the plate to field the ball, bat at the same time the B-R takes off for first and runs into the catcher. Is this a no-call - play on? Or is it interference on the batter? (Of the 3 choices I'm 99.99% sure it is NOT obstruction on the catcher.) Thanks!

I’d be inclined to say yes, that is an UnEqual V3. The front no longer has the UnEqual emblem, the Force3 logo is raised on the chest instead, as well as being fully on the NewFlex harness.

Any way to tell if this is an actual F3v3 chest protector? If it is, that's a hell of a price! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F283486407508

    Positioning...

You'd think just mentioning the fact that there's a giant ball of fire (very relatively) close to the ball field would be enough to suspend the game, but who knows, some people are crazy

Runner allowed to advance to 3rd??

Mr. Jimurray gave an incomplete citation for the high school rule—the rule where it actually says what the OP is looking for is 8-3-5 in the very last sentence of subparagraph (b). 2018 NFHS rule 8-3 ART. 5 . . . An award is from the base determined as follows: b….If every runner, including the batter-runner, has advanced one base at the time of the first play, the award is two bases from the time of the throw. For any subsequent play by an infielder or for any throw by an outfielder, the award is two bases from the time of the throw.

    Balk or not

Maybe this should be it's own thread, but it's kinda related. What about on a move to first, where the pitcher steps back, onto the rubber, then throws to first? It seems to me that this isn't properly disengaging, thus making a feint/not gaining ground illegal, but I'm not totally sure. What if he executes it like a jump throw?

Runner allowed to advance to 3rd??

@Jimurray gave the citation for FED, but I'm pretty sure this is all codes.
  25. Is this NFHS? That is all throws from the outfield are awarded time of throw. If so, can you reference the rule as I am really trying to wrap my brain around these base awards.

Pick off move on the way to set

Must come to a stop before throwing a pitch. A pick off is not a pitch. From OBR: 6.02 Pitcher Illegal Action (a) Balks If there is a runner, or runners, it is a balk when: (13) The pitcher delivers the pitch from Set Position without coming to a stop.
