Dropped Third Strike, R3 scores

Question

I apologize if this has been answered here before.

Runner on third. Two outs.  Dropped third strike. The runner from third touches home plate before the catcher throws the batter-runner out at first.

Which is correct?

Run scores: The batter becomes a runner upon the dropped third strike. The runner from third scores by crossing home before the put out at first.

No run scores: No run may score during a play when the third out is a force out or the batter-runner does not reach first safely.

Thank you in advance for your replies.
