I don't have a lot of experience calling balks but what's the reason for the balk here?

Nevermind. Free foot didn't gain distance towards 1B.

Looked like that front foot went towards third base right before he hopped.

Right -- and you can see U2 indicate that right away -- he's patting his leg at the :06 - :07 mark

And, a few years ago the coach just coming out after the leg tap would have been ejected. But now, explanations of all balks are allowed, until they become an argument. Thus the ejection.
