Even though the strike zone is defined in the book, it's really "whatever the league wants it to be."

 

And, for a long time, MLB wanted it to be lower and wider than what was written, and to contain an element of "hitting the spot."  That has changed.

 

this is what I referred to above with the zone changing.

I agree that it looked bad because of the catcher but for what it's worth, I can't remember the name but the system that Gil used for UEFL had it as a strike.  Also this still shot shows it's not as h
