NB460 vs. Field Magistrates

6 posts in this topic

Anyone make the switch from Field Magistrates to the new New Balance MU460's? Looking for some feedback on fit/comfort/performance differences.

I've had my Reeboks for 3 seasons now and am starting to look for a replacement. I really like the Reeboks and know how they fit, but the MU460's do look tempting, especially with the different width options.

I've seen different views on-line of whether or not the MU460's run true to size or need to be sized up. I went against the size-up advice when I got my Reeboks and they fit perfectly, but I got a pair of the ZigTech base shoes in my true size and they were too small, so trying to get some perspective on sizing from actual users before I put in an order.

Thanks!

From what I've seen here on the board .... the new 460 isnt' like the 450, you order your size and it seems to work ....

I've never worn the Magistrates or the 450s but my rule of thumb for NB shoes is go with my actual size but in 4E width. I never wear wide shoes except when it comes to NB.

i got the 460s. the bad thing is they come a loose in the front where the cover attaches. i have worn them on about 30 plates and have had to put them in the shoe shop twice. which is better and cheaper than sending them back. but other than that they are great plate shoes.

I will probably go for a pair of 460's, I have a neighbor from when I was growing up who still lives in MA and works for NB, holding out to see if she has a friends and family deal or an employee discount she can share. If not I will call Ump-Attire and confirm sizing before I place my order.

I have both and i like both equally you cant go wrong with either. To answer your question they run true to size and are very comfortable almost spongey.

They're he-e-e-re !   I needn't have worried about whether they'd fit well.    I couldn't ask for a better fit.   These will make a very nice backup pair of plate shoes.  Or who knows - some days they will be primary.   Thanks @Thunderheads.
Oh - the title... that was just click bait.   But these are "new" to me, since I've been wearing NB shoes for the past 10+ years.

Just placed an order for the New Balance MU460 plate shoes.   I thought sure that I could squeeze another season out of the original NB 450s, but it's just not possible, as my toes are still swollen 24 hours later from yesterday's game.
As information, I ordered from www.ump-attire.com and I will be happy to report back with my review, both here and at Ump-Attire.  Looking forward to some comfort !

The official on-field shoe for MLB umpires for the 2017 season, the MU460v3 New Balance Umpire Plate Shoes are designed for that extra look of authority with its hi-gloss finish that is easy to clean while maintaining the comfort, breathability and traction you expect in an on-field athletic shoe.
The redesigned floating instep guard provides advanced features. First, it provides maximum protection where you need it most, on the inside of your feet, without the extra bulk on the outside where you don't. Second, it "releases" from the top making it easier to take on and off and to lace your shoelaces. Third, there is a mesh strap that creates space between your shoe and guard for air to flow.
This mid-cut style is all-black with MLB logo on the tongue and heel and with NB logo on sole.

Dispersion Instep Guard provides more inner foot protection ABZORB® - a blend of Dupont™ Engage® and Isoprene rubber - in heel and forefoot provides superior shock absorption and cushioning throughout the game Strategically placed mesh strap on inside of metatarsal guard that promotes air flow and breathability Guard releases for easy on/off Mid-cut provides greater ankle support Hi-gloss is easy to clean / polishable Snug-fit integrated neoprene sock liner provides additional comfort between foot and hard toe Nubby outsole for enhanced traction 23.1 ounces The official plate shoes for MLB umpires For baseball or softball
