  1. Porter mouthed early in the video "I'm not going that far...". The announcers are wrong, as my guess is he moved some just not as far as Murphy wanted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Great! Thank you for the quick response! I'll be registering soon and look forward to attending. Thanks again.
  3. Do you still have open spots in the 9/7-9/10 clinic? Thanks!
  4. In my experiences when I hear the phrase "he's calling strikes over their heads" & "it's half way through the batters box" they are almost always over-exaggerations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Would this be a HBP for you: Inside fastball, batter doesn't move, drilled in the ribs. Award 1st? He "permitted" it to hit him as he didn't attempt to get out of the way, but he also didn't actively do anything to get into the path, as you state above for clarifying "permit." Thanks for the replies! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. One "test" our assoc. uses is did the ball hit the batter, or did the batter hit the ball? We've had spirited discussion at the local level....I'm not a fan of "has to try and get out of the way." And agreed with ElkOil, NFHS verbiage isn't the most helpful. It would be great if they just decided and said "has to make an effort" if that's what they want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Wow, the more I read this thread over and over, do I realize how f****d up this question is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I'll prob lean more toward calling time as well, take 2 more seconds to eval *reactions*, then make the call. I don't know if I'm a fan of a "take your glove off and let's check if it's red" kinda deal----are we going with shoe polish on ball for HBP....checking the field/dirt for cleat marks on missed bags...etc. And if he does this, good job kid: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. ^^^^This. Also, here's an oldie, but a a goodie that should help: use the rules to get you out of trouble, not get you into trouble. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Lol...looks like you took him up on his offer to get off the bucket....[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. A lot of times kids can/do get under our skin. To me, it sounds like you spent 10 minutes to many worried what this kid thought. Be honest about what you see, make the call, and move on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Hello and welcome! Just a couple of thoughts for you....depending on what you want to get out of umpiring, set some goals for yourself--realistic, yet challenging. Maybe move up to varsity in a couple of years, attend some clinics, get a mentor, pro school, etc. Work any game that you can get your hands on (SWMBO of course)....and don't dump a "lower" game to chase a "higher" level--honor your assignments. Those higher games will come. And always go for working the plate. Yes, take breaks from working the plate when needed, but a considerable majority of umpiring skill is learned @ the dish. Read the rule book. Games are not won/lost on balls/strikes, safe/out, catch/no catch. Yes it's important to have these skills, but often it's the misapplication of the rules. Even 1 hour a day to memorize and also comprehend goes a long way. Good luck and good baseball to you!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Great transaction with Acpar72. Quick communication and item described and delivered as expected. Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Long shot here probably, but anyone have/can locate Reebok's Field Magistrate II plate shoes? Apparently discontinued and I've been searching for months. Size 14 needed, low- or mid-cut is fine. Thanks and appreciate any help.
  15. I'd say just check eBay daily, amazon too probably. Also the buy/sell/trade on here was VERY helpful. Good luck to you.
  16. Great find! I've been on eBay for over a month....13, 15, 16....finally! I think 13.5 will do. Thanks everyone for the help.
  17. @gnhbua93 please Email me at Jefferson.derr@gmail.com. Thanks!
