  2. Just worked some of my first innings with the New NB 460. By far best shoe I have warn. I think Reebok doesn;t even hold a candle to them. Lighter and cheaper and bigger protection on TOP of the foot. I really liked my 450s but man this is amazing! Great value I feel as well folks.

  3. All insurance is based on the same principles. In fact it is the leading form of legal, licensed theft in our society.

  4. Here's what I know from the past... Somehow along the way PBUC would determine how many people they would invite to their sessions and would divide that between Wendelstedt & JEAPU . If there was an odd number of invitations it would be rotated. I think it seemed pretty fair. Now we have a 3rd player in the game. It seems to me they are dividing the slots up evenly among the 3 schools. Now I don't want to discuss talent or ability about anybody because I wasn't there and don't know. Would it seem that the person who graduated 14/45 (31st percentile) from TUS and got an invite be better than the person who graduated in the same percentile from Harry's or JEAPU who didn't??? Who knows. At face value it appears from the numbers if you were looking to get a job this year would have been a great year to go to TUS. But on the other hand if you got an invite out of Wendelstedt even if you graduated #14 you're in the 12th percentile you might feel pretty confident in your chances. Now if you graduated # 15 in your class I can fully understand that you'd be frustrated because you feel that person from TUS who got an invite and was in the 31st percentile probably isn't as good as you and you deserve their slot. This will probably balance out over time. The telling tale is going to be who gets the nod for a job out of PBUC what do those ratios look like. We will see in March.

  5. What's going on, Arik? Good to see you back up! And, that's not Chris Hickman. He uses the clever screen name, Chris Hickman. P.S. Arik actually umpired a game in which my son was the DH. So, I've seen him work, but we never actually met.

  8. And remember the 2nd out is on the batter-runner. For example a force play at 3rd violation where F5 then throws to 2nd trying to get force there. Even if he does get the runner at 2nd he is safe because the ball is dead immediately at 3rd and B/R declared out.

  9. not me. But I also dont let it dry on my shoes. I will spray it on and let it bubble and clear a bit. Then I will wash it off by spraying it with a water bottle and a towel. Havent noticed any issues on my 450s or my reebok base shoes.

  11. I answered D and at least one other college umpire I know did the same. I will admit I was clueless when I saw this question. It's not B or C for sure. In A, does "baserunning infraction" mean missing a base or leaving early? First thing that is key to understanding for this question is the definition on an appeal. The NCAA (which is all that matters for this test) defines an appeal as "the act of a player or coach claiming a violation of the rules by the opposing team or misinterpretation of them by the umpires." (2-1-Appeal). The key here is violation of the rules by the opposing team or misinterpretation of them by the umpires. No judgment calls. A. Batting out of order - violation of the rules by the opposing team & baserunning infraction - judgement B. Half swing - appeal allowed & interference - judgement C. Half swing - appeal allowed & coach aiding a runner (interference) - judgement D. Half swing - appeal allowed & runner missing a base - appeal allowed D is your answer.

  12. I think the Easton bucket cover in my garage just found new life. It also looks like I need to make a visit to Target to stock it properly. Never thought I'd be excitied to go shopping for household supplies. LOL...

  13. PBUC's The Umpire School graduated its inaugural class on Sunday morning (Feb. 5th) with notification to 14 students to return in March for the PBUC Eval Course, And just as I had fully expected, the experience was first rate. "Spags (Darren Spagnardi) and his crew" made certain of that! With their "controlled games" presentation on the field, they were on TOP of all possible mechanics instruction and evaluation - ranging from standard plays to those infrequentently occuring (not 3rd world) plays such as BI, CI, RLV, Balks, & overthrows into DBT requiring correct application of penalties and/or awards. For example, whereas I might have umpired 2 or 3 catcher INT during my games last year, I observed at least 75 to 80 of them during the field instruction (with a couple thrown at me during my reps). Jorge (Bauza) and Dusty (Dellinger), lead rules & mechanics instructors, presented during AM classtime the OBR rule book in a logical, organized manner - doing away with reading the rule book consecutively from Rules 1 thru 9. Each theme/topic from the rule book would eventually make its way into that day's field mechanics which they followed up with after the rulebook instruction. However, I must admit that 3 1/2 hours of class instruction required a few trips to the readily available coffee urn for refill. Two other important themes threaded thier ways thru the school instruction/experience: the integrity of baseball and the conditioning of umpires. Larry (Reveal), lead curricullum instructor, made it clear what umpires are fundamentally about: upholding the integrity of baseball and in no small part through the display of their own integrity on the field. The emphasis on integrity became apparent to all of us students one morning after testing when he made forcefully clear (at the loudest decibal) to everyone in attendance that that integrity had been violated by someone looking at another's test answers! To Larry, umpires are indeed what Washington Post columnist George Will wrote a couple of years ago: "Umpires are baseball's judicial branch" and we had better live up to it.The other component threading its way through the instruction was medical coordinator Mark (Stubby) Stubblefield's constant insistence on umpires' need to be vigilant about their conditioning - those injuries, ailments, etc, that always arise from umpiring, Through instruction at class gatherings and assistance to the students' ailments/injuries, Stubby empasized that PBUC wants to keep you physically in the game, and that can only be done through regular and proper conditioning. All of this - housing, food service, class instruction, fieldwork (including cage practice), and absolutely more (for example, umpire camradery, etc.) - takes place all in one setting: The Vero Beach Sports Village (the former Dodger spring training grounds), and in the Florida weather where we did not have one rainy day throughout the 4 weeks. As for me, completing this pro school 4-week course at age 64 has been satisfying in and of itself as my own personal achievement,,,
