  1. I wouldn't balk F1 if R1 was successful in "startling the pitcher into balking." IMO that is a situation where R1's actions caused the "balk." ???
  2. I viewed it once and it looked to me like PU intercepted the coach to keep him away from BU until the situation out there was settled. It was out of the picture, but I have a feeling that BU was probably surveying the situation and issuing those "knowck it offs" or "take it easy fellas" that others mentioned. Regarding the EJ, sometimes in situations like that, It's kind of like timing on your calls. All right, I saw the action, but it may be the secondary action that determines the EJ or not. Was it a quick little shove to maybe just fend off the contact, or did it continue...
  3. Interesting, could you give some examples? I'm under the impression that local ground rules could define dead ball areas, but the book still defines what happens if a ball goes into dead ball territory as well as how to determine if a player has entered deadball territory while making a catch.
  4. That, too... Good lord, a Hugo siting. I've reduced my on line antics. Also I've pretty much removed myself from umpiring baseball games, preferring to concentrate on Softball, But sometimes I like visiting..... Hope you have survied the heat wave, maybe you want to come down to Florida to cool off....
  5. 1 pitch walk to the next batter? :FIRE:
  6. Also they take your team picture and photoshop your image away forever!
  7. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=16966333 Forget about the balk - Forget the talking head (:didn't step off at all") Check out around 1:23 when the PU comes out to walk off Wedge.
  8. Was that supposed to take the place of : "2. may warn the pitcher and the manager of both teams that another such pitch will result in the immediate expulsion of that pitcher (or a replacement) and the manager." Seems to me at this point you should be making it clear to both teams that the limit has been reached. I see possible problems that can occur from giving a subtle little plea to just the one coach like that . The other team is unaware that you are doing anything to control the situation, as far as they know you are going to continue to allow the chin music. Seems to me that a valid reaction on their part would be to do the same. Seems top me that as soon as you recognize there is a problem, issue the warning. If you knew what was happening, along with telling the batter not to take a step, you should have given the warning.
  9. Is contact required for an obstruction call?
  10. Yep... but not a this age/skill level. Most of the runs scored were from walks and past balls and wild pitches. Not much skill involved in this game whether it be infielder, outfielder or pitcher. Hmmmmm despite my post supporting you on that other board, re-reading the situation on here, especially noting the underlined comment, makes me wonder if you wouldn't have been better off making the balk call and ending the game there, instead of risking it going to extra innings!!!. :) :)
  11. 5 straight 18U games????? Someone needs a new UIC!!! :givebeer:
  12. If you know that is the rule, why wouldn't you enforce it on the field (whether or not an evaluator is watching)?
  13. I like that
