Saturday, I'm working a game with that guy, who tells me he thinks he kicks one the game before (which I was not working). Bases loaded, 2 outs, 2 strikes on the batter, the pitch bounces in, the batter swings, and it hits the batter in the foot. He sends him down to 1B, scoring the tying run, sending the game to extra innings, and they don't finish the game until a walk-off single in the bottom of 10, pushing the next game 55 minutes late. Ouch!

Tonight, I've got the plate, and we have R2 only, 2 strikes on the batter, pitch is inside, batter swings and gets hit by the pitch.

I did not send him to 1B. :)

NFHS coach tonight didn't know F1 couldn't go to the mouth while in contact.  I told him that it, along with a few other new rules, were the real reason why it seems the games are lasting so much longer.

Varsity game for me last week and I'm working with that guy who called "batter's interference" when the batter fouled off a pitch and his bat hit the catcher's glove. No penalty, but made the call. The HC questioned it, but wasn't sure and the guy never asked for my help. Unfortunately, when I went in to listen, he told me "I've got this." We discussed it after the game and there was no way a Varsity veteran was going to listen to me quote the rule.

He said the catcher had the right to the box and a chance to make the play.

Have you no respect for precedent?

Uhmmmm... So what's the point of making a/the call like this in the first place, if there is no penalty or award? This makes even less sense than the reason for a foul tip mechanic (I'm not saying there shouldn't be a foul tip mechanic... just that the justification for it is... c'mon, admit it, kinda ambiguous)! Besides, wouldn't contact with the catcher's glove be "catcher's interference"? Oh, so it's on the follow-through, or backswing, after he's already hit a foul ball? And "right to the box"... what box??!

There is an absence of even common sense on this one.

The point of making a call like this is if you don't know WTFYATA, you do know the coaches know even less. What the guy wearing a blue shirt did not know is that his partner did know.
