Regardless ....

Personally , if there is just this ONE question....there are 2.  First of all, ....@johnnyg08 was correct ....they all provide great protection is worn properly.  However ....

1) West Vest Platinum

2) All-Star CP4000 System Seven

They both have ONE piece from the main chest plate all the way up and over the collarbone area.

The All Star isn't necessarily one piece, but the way it's put together, it acts like one piece.

I answered your question correctly.  @Thunderheads does an excellent job of giving you some advice.  We will all agree that you don't want buy the least expensive CP either.

This is all true.

But you also need to consider what level of ball you are calling now, and what you anticipate calling in 5 years.

You have some soft shells like this which give good protection, But I'd question its effectiveness at Varsity and above.

https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Chest-Protectors/CP135_Champro-Pro-Plus-Umpire-Chest-Protector?id=455

You have some less expensive hardshells like these which could protect you adequately through Varsity level:

https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Chest-Protectors/CP335_Champro-Pro-Plus-Plate-Armor-Umpire-Chest-Protector

https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Chest-Protectors/A3217-CHA13_Wilson-Charcoal-Umpire-Chest-Protector

Then you have the top end CPs like these: They are expensive but they are the most protective. They may be overkill for sub-varsity games.

https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Chest-Protectors/CPU4000_All-Star-System-Seven-Umpire-Chest-Protector

Some will say buy the best you can afford, and that is not bad advice, but may not always be practical. The great thing is that used umpire-equipment has great resale value.

Good luck.

From a design standpoint it is truely "unequal", pardon the pun, in the sense of its adjustability to fit multiple shoulder widths and multiple lengths. Truely unique cp. But like you said @Thunderheads, you need to take "that shot" to see how protective it is.

I took a shot there and didn't feel a thing. But that's me. Some people have said they will never wear one. I am a believer.

I don't own one either, but the design of it is intriguing to me, but  the cost keeps you from just buying it to try it. I have a tall upper body for a 5'-10" guy. After getting a few  lower ribs cracked last fall, I have been looking for a longer cp.

Good protectors and good advice. I would recommending spending an extra $50 to get better protection.

Cant go wrong with the UE CP.  I have it & the Wilson Gold as the two I have settled on.  If you anticipate doing this awhile & can afford to the UE is the way to go as well as in the Shins.  I have tried em all & waited on the feed back for the UE products.  Took a direct hit in collar bone area two weekends ago with a kid gunned at 88mph & never felt it other than realizing it hit me.  Great protection!  I like many others wore it since June of last year & never got hit & was beginning to think the invisible force field rumor was not a myth.  You can blow a lot of $ trying out different ones & if you are a savyv independent contractor / entrepreneur you will figure out how to write off equipment on taxes as business expenses but UE is the real deal for comfort & protection.  Put a All-Star System 7 harness & you will have a hard time not picking it up if it's in your car for any level.

There is a removable pad on the UE that covers this area. I use it and had my umpire # added to it since it shows above my shirts.

I would suggest removing that pad and tightening the UE CP so that the main plate of the CP is covering your collarbone. My logic is that by using the main "plate" of the CP you are going to get greater protection (it seems thicker in that area) and a wider area that will better disperse the impact of a collar bone shot. Your call, I just figured I'd throw my  :2cents: in before you take a shot that you might regret.

To the OP: the Uequal/Force 3 CP & shins are regarded as some of the best equipment on the market and I have been very satisfied with both products for almost 2 years now.

Ok, so I'm a huge fan of Unequal gear (and now have the CP, Shins, and mask bought in that order).  Got a slight concussion with a Diamond w/ Wendy's last Spring (harsh impact) and got the UE mask. You wear it snugly, so while it's heavy it doesn't pull down on your neck.  Took 10 plates to get nailed, and when I finally did, it felt like no more than a "push" (unflipping believable).  My UE CP covers my ribs where the Platinum didn't, and I agree $26 and a Delta Harness on it works awesome.  However, as much as I love it through and through, and have no fears whatsoever for my heart, chest, ribs, collar bone, shoulders, etc., I think it's a little misleading (if not completely disingenuous) to say that you won't feel the impacts.  My experience says you will very much "feel" the impacts much more than w/ the Wilson. Let's be serious.  Direct shots to the Platinum bounce off and rebound towards the pitcher ("Is that all you got?").  Direct shots to the UE will drop straight down, and you will feel a slap (and even the sting of a slap--especially if hit on the nipples). The sensation goes away within seconds, and I've never had a bruise or a mark (trust me, I've checked plenty of times).  Love my UE CP.  Love it, love it, love it, love it.  But to say you won't feel it?  Please, not on my watch.

I can vouch for this CP. I used it for five years, and it worked great, even at varsity level and adult leagues.
