Surprised to see Rap retire so young.  Injury issues?

Congrats to Porter, Carapazza and Gonzalez!  All the best to Cousins, Tschida and Rapuano!

All guys debuted in 2010, nice to see them land full time jobs so quickly.

I like the choices for CC. All three deserve it AND nice to see two umpires from Oregon are now Crew Chiefs.

Rap was out almost the entire season last year.  In years past it seems like guys would hang on and be on the DL for a while.  Surprised to see Rapuano hang it up so soon but good for him.  He had a great career.

I'm happy for the guys who chased the dream.  Three in a year is huge.

I think there will be more to follow in the next five years.

I'm not where I need to be, but not where I used to be.

Major props for the new guys.  It's great to see their hard work and dedication pay off.  Also good to see some long time vets get the last promotion in the line to Crew chief, those guys have worked hard for it.

These are the actual retirements.

Is anyone going on the DL, and if so, have they announced that yet, or will they wait?

2013 PCL (2012 League in parenthesis)

Gerard Ascani (IL)......................................Shaun Lamp(EL)

Nick Bailey (TL/PCL)..................................Kellen Levy(PCL)

Jordan Baker (PCL)....................................Scott Mahoney(PCL)

Steve Barga (PCL)......................................Brandon Misun(TL/PCL)

Lance Barrett (PCL)....................................Michael Muchlinski(PCL)

Cory Blaser (PCL).......................................Marcus Pattillo(IL)

Angel Campos (PCL)..................................D.J. Reyburn(PCL)

Clint Fagan (PCL).......................................Mark Ripperger(PCL)

Jordan Ferrell (SL)......................................Stu Scheurwater(PCL)

Spencer Flynn (SL).....................................Adam Schwartz(TL)

Tripp Gibson (PCL).....................................Chris Segal(PCL)

Brian Hertzog (PCL)....................................Gregory Stanzak(TL)

Joel Hospodka (PCL)..................................John Tumpane(PCL)

Kolin Kline(SL-PCL).....................................Quinn Wolcott(PCL)

..................................Thomas Woodring(EL)

Those on the 2012 MLB Call-Up list from the roster above- Jordan Baker, Lance Barrett, Cory Blaser, Angel Campos, Clint Fagan, Tripp Gibson, Mike Muchlinski, D.J. Reyburn, Mark Ripperger, John Tumpane

2012 Arizona Fall League--stats show all recent hires to the call-up list and full time MLBU have had a stint in the AFL (i.e.-there are never any full time guarantees, but in recent times no AFL=no invite to MLB Spring Training=no regular season call-up status=no MLBU (not to be confused with the Arizona Instructional League).

Travis Carlson, Seth Buckminster, Quinn Wolcott, Nick Bailey, Andy Dudones, Will Little, Ben May, Chad Whitson, Chris Segal, Sean Barber, Stu Scheurwater, Jordan Baker, Joel Hospodka, A.J. Johnson.

Also, let it be known, Shaun Lampe, started in the Coastal Plains League (A College wood bat League) in 2008, which is the starting place for PBUC reserves that are not assigned to a 70 game (Rookie or Short A) League right out of the of PBUC Evaluation Course which takes the top candidates from Wendelstedt and TUS and runs for a week in March after those two schools are finished. So, it can be done, and now he will get the opportunity to impress those at the MLB level if he has not possibly done so already. Good luck and congrats to all those receiving promotions at all levels, including professional umpires at all the amateur player levels.

Apparently Stu Scheurwater has been invited to MLB Spring Training.

How do you go about finding out if one of the guys who made the rookie league Gulf Coast League is still around?

Jon Saphire has been helping out our advancement class for our association (COBUA).  Really nice guy and I have learned a lot in just one short week.  Hoping to check out one of his games if he works in Columbus this year.
