I need your support!

I will be running in the UMPS CARE Run for the Bears on December 3rd 2011 in Washington DC.

UMPS CARE has been extremely kind in working with Umpire-Empire by giving me access to the MLB umpires who work with them and I want to repay them for all their kindness.

If you have enjoyed my interviews with
Mike Di Muro or Jim Reynolds (I have more in progress ;) ) thank UMPS CARE.

My goal is not to finish first in the race but rather be among the top fundraisers. I am absolutely confident I can do this with the support of the members of Umpire-Empire.

Please take a moment to review and consider a donation if you are in a position to support my effort. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the tax laws. A donation of any size will be appreciated.

Be sure to share my link with others. Many of you will know others who while not umpires would be willing to support UMPS CARE Charities.

Another way to help me raise funds might be through your employers. They may be willing to donate or they may have a matching program to match your donation.

I am also attaching a mail in donation form for your convenience. Just be sure to write my name, Warren Workman, where it asks for runner's name.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Guys there's just about a month remaining before this run.

Here's my update:

Raised so far $157.70
This puts me at 18 out of 50ish fundraisers
My weight loss 11lbs.
I have yet to be able to run the fill 3.2 miles non-stop as a result of the combination of my ankle and my endurance, but I'm getting there.

My goal is to be in the top 10; so I need your support.

No donation is too small.

A huge thank you to Larry, Mike & Bob U-E members who have contributeded so far.

Just an update:

I'm just under $85 to reaching my goal.

Unfortunately if I don't hit my goal by 11/15 I will not be able to participate. :crybaby2: But the money will still go to UMPS CARE.

I'm #23 out of about 60 in dollars raised.

While training I'm up to just a hair under 13lbs lost.

I still cant run more than 100 - 200 yards as my ankle can't take the impact, but I'm "power walking" at just under 5mph which I'm satisfied with, but really wish I could jog. My initial goal was to finish in less than 30 min. (6.4mph) I won't be there. Next week I'm going to try jogging for as far as I can before I have to stop, switch to powerwalking until I feel I can pick up the pace again and repeat this as often as necessary. 1.4 MPH doesn't seem like that much more to make up but it really is in percentage.

Update:

Tomorrow is the deadline to donate - at least for me to get credit for -- and I will be running errr... powerwalking.

Thanks in large part to the generous donation of $250 from a not-so-anonymous member

Thank you!

The race was this morning:

I'm overall satisfied with my result 45:35 which was 4199th place overall and 117th place for men 35-39. I thought I did better but there were 2 bottlenecks where I came to a complete stop for about a minute each time. One spot they tried to funnel several thousand runners through a 10' wide tunnel and another where the path is also about 10' wide for a few hundred yards.

But I did meet the most important of my goals I came in 10th of 62 in fundraising.
